Guidelines to Proposal
Development
 | Talk to a representative of the funding agencies. Do
not simply rely on their literature or information contained on their web
page. Much of this information may be out of date or emphasize
elements in a proposal that are now downgraded. If your proposal is to
SBSRI, please talk to Camilla Strausfeld (Social Sciences #115;
cstrausf@u.arizona.edu;
621-3930) or Diana Archangeli (Douglass #204, dba@u.arizona.edu; 621-2184).
|
 | Information you should find out before writing a proposal:
|
-
Does the agency have a history of funding projects similar
to the one you wish to pursue? Ask to view previous applications if they
are available. If they have not funded similar research, can your study
be modified to match their previous research?
-
Are you eligible to apply? Nearly all funding
agencies restrict who may apply. Be sure that you are eligible.
 |
Make several drafts of your proposal and have those drafts
critiqued by several individuals. Attempt to find reviewers that are
familiar with your work and its place in the academic literature.
|
 |
Leave yourself plenty of time. It may take months to
adequately prepare your proposal. Be sure to allow enough time to draft
and rewrite your proposal several times.
